This is similar to Route 1 but with the addition of the Col du Cucheron so a little more distance. From the Col du Porte there is a long descent taking you through the Gorges du Guiers Mort to St Laurent du Pont. The route then takes in some flat riding on quiet roads, before climbing back to St Pierre d'Entremont through the Gorges du Guiers Vif and then the Col du Cucheron. Don't worry about water fountains on this ride as they are plentiful on the Col du Cucheron and the Col du Coq.
The final ascent over the Col du Coq is certainly a tough one with stretches of 16% burning the legs, but the descent of the Col du Coq makes it worth it
Also note that the Col du Porte can be climbed from a number of starting points in Grenoble but this route takes you up from La Tronche.
